Our History

We began Operations in the year 1994

Established as a boutique merchant bank in 1994, Grindrod Bank has grown and matured into a highly competitive, specialised financial institution. As a proudly South African company, we have already managed to make a meaningful contribution to the country's transformation agenda through our black industrialist' programme, SME strategy and B-BBEE implementation. We strongly believe that Grindrod Bank has the necessary plans and structures already in place to realise the existence of a black-owned South African investment bank - a journey that began at the dawn of our young democracy.

After some years of putting smiles on the faces of our clients, we hit the 50,000 mark on number of customers. We are not perfect, but we are near perfection.

The numbers isn't what excites us but the fact that we have been able to keep all these number of people through the years. Our staff base is currently over 1100 accros the United States but we are working on employing more people as time goes on.
